Ag-As

Ag-As (Silver-Arsenic) M.R. Baren The assessed phase diagram is based mainly on the work of [15Hei] and [59Ead]. Both are in agreement as to the form of the diagram. Because As has a sublimation point of 614 C at atmospheric pressure, the liquidus curve of the As-rich melts was realized only under increased pressure [Hansen]. The melting point of pure As is 817 C at 36.3 atm. The system contains a slight solid solution range of As in (Ag) and an intermediate phase, z, which forms peritectically at 582 C and decomposes eutectoidally at 446 C. There is also a eutectic reaction at 540 C at higher As compositions. Ag is practically insoluble in (As). 15Hei: W. Heike and A. Leroux, Z. Anorg. Chem., 92, 119-126 (1915). 59Ead: G.A. Eade and W.
