Ag-Dy

Ag-Dy (Silver-Dysprosium) K.A. Gschneidner, Jr. and F.W. Calderwood In the assessed Ag-Dy phase diagram, three congruently melting compounds exist- Ag51Dy14, Ag2Dy, and AgDy. Four eutectics also occur-(Ag)-Ag51Dy14, Ag51Dy14- Ag2Dy, Ag2Dy-AgDy, and AgDy-(aDy). The assessed temperatures are the average of values reported by [70Gsc], [76Del], and [78Guz]. The Ag-rich compound is Ag51Dy14, based on the data of [79Fer]. The solubility of Dy in (Ag) at 805 C is 1.3 at.% [70Mcm]. Ag2Dy is a compound with a narrow homogeneity range and a eutectic between Ag2Dy and AgDy at 37.5 at.% Dy. The solubility of Dy in Ag from 300 to 802 C is taken from [70Gsc], because of the purer metals used in this study. [78Guz] observed thermal effects at 1130 and 850 C in an Ag-96 at.% Dy alloy cooled from 1570 C at the rapid cooling rate of 30 C/min. These thermal arrests could be associated with the b <259> a transformation in Dy and with the AgDy-Dy eutectic, respectively. [76Del] reported difficulty in observing thermal effects in this composition region; thus, no details are shown in the assessed diagram for compositions above 90 at.% Dy, except the melting point and transformation temperatures of pure Dy metal. 70Gsc: K.A.
