Ag-Ho

Ag-Ho (Silver-Holmium) K.A. Gschneidner, Jr. and F.W. Calderwood The assessed phase diagram for the Ag-Ho system is based on a review of the work of [65Wun], [66Geb], and [70Mcm]. The eutectic temperature between (Ag) and the Ag-rich compound is 795 C [65Wun]. The Ag-rich compound is Ag51Ho14 [70Mcm], with a narrow solubility range. Otherwise, the phase diagram is exactly as that reported by [66Geb]. Because Ho does not undergo transformation to a high-temperature phase, the Ho-rich portion of the system is quite simple. No information is available on the solubility of Ag in (Ho). [66Geb] reported three intermetallic compounds, all of which melt congruently: Ag7Ho2 (Ag51Ho14 in the assessed diagram), at 920 C; Ag2Ho at 990 C; and AgHo, at 1165 C. They reported eutectic points at 11.5, 26.5, 36.5, and 81 at. % Ho, with the respective eutectic temperatures of 795, 890, 970, and 880 C. The maximum solubility of Ho in (Ag) was found to be 1.6 at.%. 65Wun: W.J. Wunderlin, B.J. Beaudry, and A.H. Daane, Trans. Metall. Soc. AIME, 223, 436 (1965). 66Geb: E. Gebhardt and M.
