Ag-Ir

Ag-Ir (Silver-Iridium) I. Karakaya and W.T. Thompson The approximate Ag-Ir phase diagram is calculated from estimated properties of dilute liquid alloys, assuming no mutual solid solubility and an ideal vapor phase. It is based on the work of [86Kar]. No intermediate phases have been indicated. Ir was reported as insoluble in liquid Ag [00Ros]. Measurements of microhardness, electrical resistivity, thermo-emf, and microstructure indicated very small solid solubility of Ir in (Ag) and Ag in (Ir) [59Rud]. The most dilute alloys, 0.3 at.% Ir and 1.8 at.% Ag, were reported to be in the two-phase region. The change in microhardness of dilute alloys from the value for pure elements indicated the solid solubilities of Ir in (Ag) and Ag in (Ir) less than 0.3 at.% Ir and 1.8 at.% Ag, respectively. The minimum solubility of Ir in liquid Ag, 0.1 at.% near the melting point of Ag, can be considered to be in accord with the observation of [00Ros]. 00Ros: H. Rossler, Chem.
