Ag-Mo

Ag-Mo (Silver-Molybdenum) M.R. Baren The assessed phase diagram for the Ag-Mo system has been obtained by [ Molybdenum] based on thermodynamic modeling of the limited experimental data. [ 24Dre] prepared Ag-Mo alloys by mixing high-purity powders of each element and melting them in an electric furnace. From metallographic observations, he determined that Mo is insoluble in solid Ag, but in the liquid state, Ag can dissolve at least 5.6 at.% Mo at about 1600 C. [48Lin] sintered compacts of Mo and Ag powders above the melting point of Ag. He observed that several percent of Mo are soluble in Ag at 1400 C. He also reported that Mo is not soluble in solid Ag. Based on the above results, a phase diagram was calculated. In the assessed diagram, the liquidus at a pressure of 1 atm terminates at 2228 C. Above this temperature, the diagram represents the equilibrium in which the gas phase is suppressed with pressures of at least 38 atm. The eutectic composition is calculated to be 0.38 at.% Mo at the eutectic temperature of about 958.5 C. The maximum solid solubilities at 958.5 C calculated from the solidus equations are 0.15 at.% Mo in Ag and 0.00578 at.% Ag in Mo. 24Dre: L. Dreibholz, Z. Phys. Chem., 108, 1-50 (1924). 48Lin: F.V.
