Ag-Re

Ag-Re (Silver-Rhenium) I. Karakaya and W.T. Thompson In the assessed Ag-Re equilibrium phase diagram (estimated) at standard atmospheric pressure, approximate placement of the liquidus was accomplished by assuming a regular-solution behavior and extrapolating the estimated solubility of Re in (Ag) at 1060 C [56Sim]. Re has very low solubilities [54Hol] in both solid [64Kno] and liquid Ag [ 56Sim]. It was reported that 0.424 g of Re dissolved in molten Ag when a 0.15- cm diameter and 1.25-cm long Re wire was immersed in Ag for 1 h. This does not yield the precise solubility, because the mass of Ag was unspecified. However, an estimate of the mass based on the crucible volume gives a value of 0.00174 at.%. A maximum solid solubility of less than 2 ppm Re is indicated, based on electrical measurements [64Kno] of Ag alloys. Information on the solubility of Ag in solid or liquid Re was not found. The very high boiling temperature of Re results in the negligible contribution of Re to the Ag vapor phase for temperatures above 2163 C. 54Hol: U. Holland-Nell and F. Sauerwald, Z. Anorg. Allg.
