Al-As

Al-As (Aluminum-Arsenic) A.J. McAlister Few data are available for the Al-As system. However, the phase diagram is topologically equivalent to those of other III-V systems (for example, In-As and Ga-As). The equilibrium condensed phases consist of: (1) the liquid; (2) ( Al), based on fcc Al; (3) (As), based on rhombohedral aAs (the high- temperature solid structure, with several other low-temperature forms occurring); and (4) the cubic compound AlAs, isotypic with ZnS (sphalerite), having a narrow or nil solubility range, and melting congruently at about 1760 C. The assessed phase diagram has been constructed from the liquid and AlAs model Gibbs energies of [81Kau], with the triple point used as the melting point for As. The studies of [72Fos] and [64Kis] indicated good agreement. 64Kis: W. Kischio, Z. Anorg. Chem., 328, 187-193 (1964) in German. 72Fos: L.M. Foster, J.E. Scardefield, and J.F. Woods, J. Electrochem.
