Al-Ca

Al-Ca (Aluminum-Calcium) V.P. Itkin, C.B. Alcock, P.J. van Ekeren, and H.A.J. Oonk The assessed phase diagram for the Al-Ca system is based primarily on the work of [28Mat], with review of the experimental data of [28Boz]. Thermodynamic modeling was used to draw the dashed lines in the assessed diagram. The main features of the diagram given by [28Mat] were reproduced by [Hansen]. The L/[L + (bCa)] boundary was adjusted to the melting temperature of Ca, 842 C [Melt]. The equilibrium phases of the Al-Ca system are (1) the liquid, L; (2) the fcc solid solution, (Al), with solid solubility of less than 0.05 at.% Ca at the eutectic temperature; (3) the bcc solid solution, (bCa), with a negligibly small solubility of Al; (4) the fcc solid solution, (aCa), with negligibly small solubility of Al; (5) the intermediate compound Al4Ca, which is formed in the peritectic reaction; and (6) the congruently melting intermediate compound Al2Ca. [28Mat] reported the solid solubility of Ca in Al to be about 0.6 wt.% at 616 C and about 0.3 wt.% at room temperature. 28Boz: G. Bozza and C. Sonnino, Giorn. Chim. Ind.
