Al-Sb

Al-Sb (Aluminum-Antimony) A.J. McAlister Four equilibrium phases have been observed in the Al-Sb system: (1) the liquid; (2) the fcc (Al) solid solution; (3) the rhombohedral (Sb) solid solution; and (4) the intermetallic compound AlSb with the cubic ZnS structure at low pressure, which transforms to the bct bSn structure at about 120 kbar. Only negligible amounts of Sb dissolve in (Al), and the solubility of Al in (Sb) appears to be nil. The assessed phase diagram has been obtained by optimizing model Gibbs energy functions and is based primarily on evaluation of the work of [06Tam], [19Ura], [33Gue], and [69Lic]. The modeling in the present evaluation, assuming nil solubility at both ends of the diagram, has placed the L = (Al) + AlSb eutectic at 657.5 C and 0.43 at.% Sb, with the L = AlSb + (Sb) eutectic at 625.0 C and 98.3 at.% Sb. The present parameterization gives good fit from 0 to 50 at.% Sb, as well as for the Sb-rich liquidus and the eutectic. 06Tam: G. Tamman, Z. Anorg. Chem., 48, 53-60 (1906) in German. 19Ura: G.G.
