Au-Nb

Au-Nb (Gold-Niobium) H. Okamoto and T.B. Massalski The equilibrium phases of the Au-Nb system are (1) the liquid, L; (2) the fcc terminal solid solution, (Au), with a solid solubility of 57 at.% Nb in (Au); ( 3) the bcc terminal solid solution, (Nb), with a solid solubility of 36 at.% Au in (Nb); (4) the AlB2-type intermetallic compound Au2Nb; (5) the intermetallic compound Au2Nb3, with tetragonal crystal symmetry; and (6) the fluorite-type intermetallic compound AuNb3, with a homogeneity range of about 10 at.%. The assessed phase diagram for the Au-Nb system is based mainly on the work of [73Ros]. The smoothed liquidus and solidus in the present diagram have been calculated using a thermodynamic model. The superconducting transition temperature of the Nb terminal solid solution, ( Nb), decreases uniformly from 9.25 K for pure Nb to about 1.2 to 1.5 K at 75 at.% Nb with increasing Au concentration. 73Ros: E.
