Au-S

Au-S (Gold-Sulfur) H. Okamoto and T.B. Massalski The assessed phase diagram for the Au-S system is based on the work of [61Vog], who determined the [S(g) + Au(L)]/Au(L) phase boundary at four temperatures by adding Pb to liquid Au saturated with S vapor. The volume and weight of the resulting Pb-S and Au-Pb alloys were then measured. The Au(L)/[Au(L) + Au(s)] phase boundary and the Au(L) = Au(s) + S(g) invariant temperature were also determined from cooling curves by [61Vog]. The solubility limit of S in liquid Au was estimated to be 4.95 at.% [61Vog]. No reports are available on the solubility limits of S in solid ( Au) or of Au in (S). A chemical reaction between K[Au(CN)2] and H2S forms Au2S, which is likely to be a metastable phase. The structure of Au2S is of the Cu2O type. 61Vog: R. Vogel and R. Gerhardt, Z.
