Au-Sc

Au-Sc (Gold-Scandium) K.A. Gschneidner, Jr. and F.W. Calderwood [62Ald] reported the existence of two intermetallic compounds. AuSc2 is isostructural with other AuRE2 phases. Because the only structure reported for the AuRE2 series is the orthorhombic Co2Si-type structure, it appears that AuSc2 has this structure. AuSc crystallizes in the cubic CsCl-type structure. [ 71Reu] reported that no Au3Sc phase could be detected, but both Au2Sc and the Au4Sc phase were observed to crystallize in the tetragonal MoSi2-type and the tetragonal MoNi4-type structures, respectively. No melting point data were found for any of these Au-Sc compounds. [65Rid] reported that 8.8 at.% Sc is soluble in (Au) at the (Au)-Au4Sc eutectic temperature of 1040 C. 62Ald: A.T. Aldred, Trans.
