B-La (Boron-Lanthanum) H. Okamoto The assessed phase diagram for the B-La system is based primarily on the work of [61Joh]. The equilibrium phases are (1) the liquid, L; (2) the rhombohedral terminal solid solution, (bB); (3) cubic B6La; (4) B4Th-type tetragonal B4La; and (5) three polymorphic modifications of (La) terminal phases. Because the transitions of B are not well known, the B-rich end of the assessed diagram is simply based on the assessed melting point of B. According to [61Joh], B6La exists over a range of composition on the B-rich side of the stoichiometry, extending from 12 to 14.2 at.% B. According to more detailed studies by [67Zhu], the homogeneity range of B6La should be very small (perhaps up to 13.3 at.% B). The solubility of B in (bLa) or (aLa) is very low, because alloys containing > 0.1 at.% B cooled from the liquid state contained B4La [61Joh]. 32All: G.A. Allard, Bull. Soc. Chim.
