Cm-Cr

Cm-Cr (Curium-Chromium) M. Venkatraman, J.P. Neumann, and D.E. Peterson No investigations of the Cr-Cm system have been reported. However, Cr and Cm, similar to other Cr-actinide systems, can be expected to form a simple eutectic phase diagram with small terminal solubilities in the solid state. The assessed phase diagram was obtained by thermodynamic modeling, using the method of [85Ven]. All temperatures are in accord with the IPTS-68 temperature scale. For the Cr liquidus, the melting temperature of Cr was taken as 1863 C; the entropy of melting was assumed to have a value of DfusS(Cr) = R. Because allotropic forms of Cm are probably in equilibrium with the liquid, two liquidus curves must be calculated-one for the high-temperature b phase and the other for the low-temperature a phase. The nature of the invariant three-phase equilibrium at ~1277 C between L, aCm, and bCm is not known. No evidence for the existence of intermetallic phases has been reported. 85Ven: M.
