Cu-Li

Cu-Li (Copper-Lithium) A.D. Pelton The assessed Cu-Li phase diagram is based primarily on the work of [30Pas] and [58Kle] and has been obtained by thermodynamic calculations. The diagram exhibits simple eutectic behavior. [30Pas] found that the eutectic temperature was identical to the melting point of pure Li. Error limits of с20 C on the liquidus and с3 at.% on the solidus were estimated. Thermodynamic calculations give a solubility of Cu in liquid (Li) at the eutectic temperature of about 0.01 mol%, which yields a calculated freezing point depression of about 0.5 C if no solubility of Cu in solid (Li) is assumed. The very flat shape of the liquidus suggests that there may actually be a region of liquid-liquid immiscibility extending above the liquidus. The thermodynamically calculated consolute point was very close to the liquidus, thus supporting this possibility. Below about 500 C, the Li-saturated solid (Cu) phase is in equilibrium with virtually pure Li so that the Li activity is essentially unity. Nevertheless, the measured [58Kle] solvus shows retrograde solubility. 30Pas: S. Pastorello, Gazz. Chim. Ital., 60, 988-992 (1930) in Italian. 58Kle: W. Klemm and B. Volavsek, Z. Anorg.
