D-Fe

Cd-Fe (Cadmium-Iron) H. Okamoto The assessed Cd-Fe phase diagram is based on review of the experimental data [ 30Tam, 62Cha]. No intermediate phases exist in this system. Magnetic measurements indicated solubilities of 6 and 4 x 10-4 at.% Fe in liquid Cd at 700 and 400 C [30Tam]. [62Cha] determined the solubility of Fe to be 4.4 x 10-4 at.% at 647 and 421 C, respectively. Existence of some mutual solid solubility between Cd and Fe was reported by [52Par]; however, no quantitative values were given. The solubility of Cd in (Fe) is very small [07Isa]. It was not known whether the small solubility is intrinsic, or a protective coating prevents the attack of Cd on steel [07Isa]. [28Age] observed no diffusion of Cd in Fe at 750 C, and [29Wev] regarded Cd as insoluble in (Fe). Liquid Cd at a temperature 20 C above its melting point is inactive to steel [31Dan]. [32Dan] reported formation of Cd2Fe on the surface of steel dipped in molten Cd. No compound formation was found after distilling Hg from Cd-Fe amalgams at 360 C [55Lih].
