Dy-Hg

Dy-Hg (Dysprosium-Mercury) C. Guminski The assessed Dy-Hg phase diagram at constrained vapor pressure, which is speculative, is based on [Moffatt], who presumed similarity to the Hg-La and Hg-Pr partial phase diagrams. Stability ranges of the Dy-Hg compounds at normal pressure are drawn with continuous lines and were taken from [66Kir]. The equilibrium phases are (1) the liquid, L, (2) the solid solutions of Hg in (aDy), (bDy), and (a›Dy), (3) four intermetallic compounds: DyHg4, DyHg3, DyHg2, and DyHg, with homogeneity ranges lower than 5 at.% Hg; and (4) (Hg), with low solid solubility of Dy. The solubility of Hg in (aDy) seems to be several atomic percent at ~700 C, whereas the solubility of Hg in (a›Dy) is likely to be very small. [79Ian] reported the formation of DyHg4, but no experimental basis was reported. [66Kir] and [79Mer] did not observe its formation on XRD patterns of the amalgam at the DyHg4 composition. If formed, DyHg4 would be stable below 150 C, so its preparation at higher temperatures [79Mer] was not possible. 59Ato: M. Atoji, J.E. Schirber, and C.A. Swenson, J. Chem.
