Dy-Nd

Dy-Nd (Dysprosium-Neodymium) K.A. Gschneidner, Jr. and F.W. Calderwood The assessed Dy-Nd phase diagram is based on the work of [72Kob], with adjustments in the melting point and transformation temperatures of the pure metals based on the accepted values. It also includes a revision of the shape of the diagram around the Sm-type phase region, based on the work of [66Lun] on the formation of this phase in binary alloys of light and heavy rare- earth metals. The phase diagram presented by [72Kob] showed the formation of the d phase through a peritectoid reaction of the two solid solutions of (aNd) and (aDy) at about 860 C. However, earlier research by [66Lun] disproved the peritectoid-type reaction for the formation of the Sm-type structure in intra- rare earth alloys. Therefore, in the present diagram, the peritectoid reaction of [72Kob] has been replaced with a congruent transformation to account for the formation of the d phase structure. The shape of the two-phase regions on either side of the Sm-type field, shown as dashed lines, has been adjusted to bring it into accord with the lattice parameter data of [72Cha]. 66Lun: C.E.
