Er-Gd

Er-Gd (Erbium-Gadolinium) K.A. Gschneidner, Jr. and F.W. Calderwood The assessed Er-Gd phase diagram reflects the anticipated phase relationships for alloys prepared from high-purity (99.9 + at.% pure) materials. It is in good agreement with the diagram of [64Bur]. [64Bur] investigated the phase equilibria in the Er-Gd system by using alloys made from 98.5 to 99.0 wt.% pure metals. Their analyses showed that the Er-Gd phase diagram is characterized by a continuous region of single-phase (cph) solid solution. Erbium does not have a high-temperature bcc structure. When alloyed with a lanthanide metal that has a bcc high-temperature form, the solvus transformation temperature line intersects the solidus at a composition where the alloy has an effective atomic number slightly below that of Ho (Z = 67) [ 73Spe]. The merging solidus and solvus indicate a peritectic reaction. 64Bur: I.V. Burov, V.F. Terekhova, and E.M. Savitskii, Zh. Neorg. Khim., 9, 2036 (1964); TR: Russ. J. Inorg.
