Er-Sc

Er-Sc (Erbium-Scandium) K.A. Gschneidner, Jr. and F.W. Calderwood The assessed Er-Sc phase diagram is based on the diagrams of [64Nau] and [65Sav], with modifications. The temperatures shown on their phase diagrams for the melting points of Er and Sc were 29 and 11 C less, respectively, than the accepted values for the pure metals. Also, the temperature for the bcc = cph transformation in pure Sc is 13 C higher than the accepted value. In constructing the assessed diagram, the accepted values for the melting points of the pure metals and for the transformation temperature of pure Sc have been used, as well as a 20 C increase for the eutectic temperature. This 20 C increase is the average of the difference between the melting point temperatures for the Er and Sc metals used by [64Nau] and the accepted melting points. Complete miscibility in the liquid state at all concentrations and a continuous series of cph solid solutions at room temperature have been observed [64Nau]. Because Er has no bcc form, alloys rich in Er transform directly from the cph structure to the liquid state. 64Nau: O.P. Naumkin, V.F. Terekhova, and E.M. Savitskii, Zh. Neorg.
