Fe-K

Fe-K (Iron-Potassium) J. Sangster and C.W. Bale The assessed Fe-K phase diagram is based on [67Ant]. The system is virtually completely immiscible in the solid and liquid states. In the assessed diagram, it is assumed that the solid solubility of K in (Fe) is negligible. The solubility of Fe in liquid K is taken from [67Ant], but these values are only approximate. Little solubility of K in Fe would be expected at ordinary pressures because the melting points of the elements differ by more than 1400 C. No Fe-K compounds have been reported. This is consistent with atomic model calculations for the enthalpy of formation of solid alloys of the type FexK1-x (x = 0.17 to 0.83), the results of which are all positive [83Nie]. The enthalpy of solution of liquid Fe in liquid K at infinite dilution was calculated from the same model [83Nie] as 221 kJ/mol. 67Ant: D.F. Anthrop, U.S. At. Energy Comm. Rep.
