Fe-Mg

Fe-Mg (Iron-Magnesium) A.A. Nayeb-Hashemi, J.B. Clark, and L.J. Swartzendruber The complete Mg-Fe phase diagram has not yet been determined. The assessed partial phase diagram (i.e., the Mg-rich region) is based on review of the experimental data [31Yen, 41Fah, 48Mit, 48Sie, 58And, 61Tav, 61Tro, 63Lev, 63 Yue, 66Bur]. The calculated diagram shown below represents the phase equilibria under a constrained pressure of Mg vapor or a neutral gas. The maximum solid solubility of Fe in (Mg) is 0.00043 at.% Fe. Solubility of Mg in (Fe) is possible only at high pressures and temperatures [61Tav, 63Lev]. Below 1000 C, Mg does not dissolve in Fe. [66Bur] placed the maximum solid solubility of Mg in (dFe) at approximately 0. 25 at.% Mg (99.75 at.% Fe) at the monotectic temperature. [28Wev] noted that the solid solubility of Mg in any allotropic form of Fe is nil. However, there is evidence of a slight solid solubility of Mg in (aFe). 28Wev: F. Wever, Arch.
