Gd-Sc (Gadolinium-Scandium) K.A. Gschneidner, Jr. and F.W. Calderwood The assessed phase diagram for the Gd-Sc system is based primarily on the work of [64Bea]. The melting point and the b(bcc) = a(cph) transformation temperatures of Sc were increased 2 C to agree with the accepted values. The melting temperature of Gd was also raised 3 C. The solidus was established by [64Bea] using an optical pyrometer method. Because no data were obtained on the liquidus, it is presented as a dashed line. The transformation temperatures for the alloys were established by differential thermal analysis. Complete solubility exists in all three single- phase regions the liquid state, the bcc high-temperature region, and the cph region that exists at lower temperatures. [79Shi] attempted to use the Kaufman method to calculate the Gd-Sc phase diagram, but the results were not satisfactory. 64Bea: B.J. Beaudry and A.H. Daane, J.
