Hg-Ho

Hg-Ho (Mercury-Holmium) C. Guminski The hypothetical Ho-Hg phase diagram at constrained vapor pressure is based on [Moffatt], who presumed its similarity to the La-Hg and Pr-Hg partial phase diagrams. Discordant opinions have been expressed on the existence of HoHg4. [79Ian] claimed HoHg4 formation, but no experimental basis was given. [66Kir] and [ 79Mer] did not observe its formation on the XRD patterns of an amalgam of the proper composition. HoHg4 is probably stable below 150 C; using the preparation method of [79Mer] at higher temperatures, such a compound could not be formed. During preparation of Ho amalgam by cementation of a Ho(III) solution with Na amalgam at room temperature, [77Bul] observed precipitation of easily wetted HoHg microcrystals that floated on the liquid surface, instead of HoHg4 or even HoHg3. 64Kir: H.R.
