K-Zr

K-Zr (Potassium-Zirconium) C.W. Bale The K-Zr system is almost completely immiscible in the liquid and solid states. There is no evidence of intermetallic formation in this system nor in any of the other alkali metal-group IVa systems. Based on thermodynamic calculations, the univariant temperatures are virtually coincidental with the phase transitions of the pure components. The solubility of Zr in liquid K at 747 to 1068 C was found to be less than 0. 0004 at.% Zr [70Ste]. By comparison with the other alkali metal-group IVa systems, the solubility of K in solid (Zr) and in liquid Zr can be expected to be very limited. From vapor pressure calculations, at 2000 C, the composition of the gas phase at 1 atm is estimated to be approximately 0.00002 at.% Zr in equilibrium with almost pure liquid Zr. 70Ste: S.
