Mg-Pb

Mg-Pb (Magnesium-Lead) A.A. Nayeb-Hashemi and J.B. Clark The assessed Mg-Pb phase diagram is based on review of the work of [05Kur], [ 33Kur], [39Vos], [40Ray], [41Foo], [57Hor], [65Dob], [65Eld], [66Bea], and [ 71Gra]. The general characteristics of the Mg-Pb diagram as given in [Hansen] are well established and accepted. The high-density difference between Mg and Pb produces severe gravity segregation during solidification. Thermodynamic modeling of the Mg-Pb system was carried out by the present authors, and the excellent agreement between the calculated and assessed Mg2Pb liquidus strongly supports the existence of only one compound, Mg2Pb, in this system. In their report of a metastable phase in the Mg-Sn system, [70Abe] noted a metastable Mg-Pb phase with fcc, AuCu3 structure occurs in the composition range 16 to 23 at.% Pb. 05Kur: N.S.
