Mg-Yb

Mg-Yb (Magnesium-Ytterbium) A.A. Nayeb-Hashemi and J.B. Clark The equilibrium phases of the Mg-Yb system are (1) the liquid; (2) the terminal (Mg) solid solution, with a maximum solid solubility of 1.2 at.% Yb; ( 3) the terminal (bYb) solid solution, with a maximum solid solubility of 3.9 at.% Mg (96.1 at.% Yb); (4) the (gYb) solid solution, with maximum solid solubility of ~8.3 at.% Mg (91.7 at.% Yb); and (5) the intermediate phase d ( Mg2Yb), which at the stoichiometric composition of 33.3 at.% Yb melts congruently at 718 C. The assessed phase diagram is based primarily on the work of [65Mcm]. 65Mcm: O.D. McMasters and K.A. Gschneidner, Jr., J. Less-Common Met., 8, 289- 298 (1965).
