Ni-Ta

Ni-Ta (Nickel-Tantalum) A. Nash and P. Nash The Ni-Ta diagram is based primarily on the work of [33The], [49Kub], [53Kor], [62Kor], [77Pim], and [83Nas]. There is full agreement on the reactions that produce all of the compounds except Ni8Ta. By means of diffusion couples and microprobe analysis, [77Pim] established the solubility limits for all five intermediate phases, which varied between 2 and 4 at.% in the temperature range of 1150 to 1340 C. The solubility of Ta in ( Ni) is uncertain and thus is shown as a dotted line. A splat-cooling technique was used to prepare alloys containing 15 to 25 at.% Ta [67Ruh]. The cooling rates varied from 105 to 107 C/s at the melting point. Four structural features were identified in the quenched alloys: (1) the cph z phase, (2) a microcrystalline phase, (3) Ni3Ta with lower than equilibrium Ta content, and (4) extended solid solubility of the (Ni) solid solution. 33The: E.
