Pb-Si

Pb-Si (Lead-Silicon) R.W. Olesinski and G.J. Abbaschian The Si-Pb system is characterized by the existence of a monotectic transformation at 1402 C and a eutectic transformation at a temperature slightly below the melting point of Pb. There is no appreciable mutual solubility of the components in the solid state. The assessed phase diagram was based on the experimental solubility mesurements of [60Thu] and [61Kir]. [60Thu] measured liquid solubility of Si in Pb by a weighing technique in the temperature range 1050 to 1250 C. [61Kir] determined the solubility of Si in Pb at 1420 C only. The temperature-composition coordinates of the liquid phase boundaries of the system were calculated by the present evaluators, assuming pseudoregularity of the liquid and no solubility in the solid state. No information is available on whether the miscibility gap extends beyond the boiling point of Pb (1750 C). The Si-Pb liquid solution is endothermic and shows a positive deviation from Raoult's law. 60Thu: C.D. Thurmond and M. Kowalchik, Bell Sys. Tech. J., 39, 169-204 (1960). 61Kir: D.H. Kirkwood and J.
