Th-W

Th-W (Thorium-Tungsten) S. Pandian, S.V. Nagender Naidu, and P. Rama Rao The assessed phase diagram for the Th-W system is based on [72Ack1] and [ 72Ack2], with review of the data of [85Sar]. The reports of [72Ack1] and [ 72Ack2] are the only data available pertaining to the Th-rich liquidus. In the assessed diagram the liquidus is shown with a continuous curve from the eutectic temperature of 1695 to 2509 C, beyond which there are no experimental data available to establish the shape of the liquidus. The extension of the liquidus beyond 2509 C shown by a dotted line resembles that reported by [85Sar], who predicted the shape of the liquidus based on thermodynamic calculations. [55Sal] quoted the solid solubility of W in (Th) to be less than 1 at.%, whereas [58Rou] reported it to be negligible. In the absence of a definite solid solubility value for W in (Th), it is considered to be negligible. According to [46Wil], [58Rou], and [72Ack1], there is no compound formation in the Th-W binary system. [28Joh] indicated having found an intermediate phase with fcc structure similar to Th but with atoms somewhat closer together. No later investigators confirmed the existence of any intermediate phase in this system. 28Joh: A. St. John, Trans. AIME, 78, 228-237 (1928). 46Wil: H.A. Wilhelm, A.S. Newton, A.H. Daane, and C.
