Zn-Zr

Zn-Zr (Zinc-Zirconium) J. Dutkiewicz The assessed phase diagram for the Zn-Zr system is based primarily on the thermal analysis, metallographic, and X-ray data of [59Chi], obtained under constrained vapor conditions. Up to 10 at.% Zr, the liquidus curve is based on the solubility data of Zr in liquid Zn given by [61Mar]. The eutectic composition of 0.014 at.% Zr was accepted from [61Mar]. At higher compositions, the assessed diagram is based on [59Chi], coinciding in the range 58 to 75 at.% Zr with the unpublished data of [54Car] quoted in [55Lus]. Above 75 at.% Zr, the assessed diagram is based on the data of [55Lus]. The solid solubility of Zr in (Zn) at 400 C was estimated in [41Geb] to be below 0.014 at.% Zr. There are no data on the solubility of Zn in (Zr). ZnZr2 investigated in [65Ros] is likely to exist; however, its presence has not been confirmed. The structure of Zn22Zr is almost identical to that of Zn14Zr, and it was suggested in [61Sam] that it is a modification of the Zn14Zr structure. Zn2Zr3, described in [61Pet], has been isolated by precipitation from a solution of Zn and Zr in molten Mg; therefore, it may not be an equilibrium phase. 41Geb: E. Gebhardt, Z.
