Ba-Sm (Barium-Samarium) K.A. Gschneidner, Jr. and F.W. Calderwood The assessed phase diagram for the Sm-Ba system is based on the work of [77Men] , with some modification. The melting temperatures for pure Sm and Ba have been adjusted to the accepted values, 1074 and 727 C, respectively. Addition of small quantities of Ba to Sm lowers the melting point of the mixture and forms a monotectic, but with pure Ba, the reduction of the melting point is probably much less than the ~50 C shown by [77Men]. In the assessed diagram, this monotectic temperature is indicated by a dashed line at 1070 C. No solid solubility is shown at either end of the diagram, but liquid immiscibility is expected to exist above the monotectoid temperature across most of the phase diagram. 77Men: O.A.
