Cu-Re

Cu-Re (Copper-Rhenium) P.R. Subramanian and D.E. Laughlin [Hansen] and [Shunk] have provided the only reviews of the Cu-Re system. [ 54Hol] reported their inability to alloy Cu and Re at temperatures up to 2175 C. Electrical resistivity measurements of [64Kno] showed the solubility of Re in (Cu) to be not more than 1 to 2 ppm. The melting points of pure Cu and Re are 1084.87 and 3186 C, respectively [Melt]. The equilibrium phases of the assessed Cu-Re phase diagram are (1) the liquid, L, with a miscibility gap (L1 + L2); (2) the fcc terminal solid solution, (Cu), with very limited solid solubility of Re; and (3) the cph terminal solid solution, (Re), with very limited solid solubility of Cu. The assessed phase diagram is schematic, because it is drawn according to a simple thermodynamic model [83Nie]. 54Hol: U. Holland-Neil and F. Sauerwald, Z. Anorg.
