Au-Gd

Au-Gd (Gold-Gadolinium) K.A. Gschneidner, Jr., F.W. Calderwood, H. Okamoto, and T.B. Massalski The calculated Gd-Au phase diagram is characterized by the presence of six compounds. Although structural data and lattice parameters have been reported for these compounds, the phase diagram has not been established experimentally. The Gd-rich compound, Gd2Au, has the orthorhombic structure of the Co2Si type [ 71Mcm]. [71Mcm] also found GdAu to be dimorphic, existing in an orthorhombic CrB-type structure at low temperatures and transforming to the cubic CsCl-type structure at 1475 C. The melting point of GdAu is 1585 с 10 C. GdAu2 has the tetragonal MoSi2-type structure. Gd forms an orthorhombic GdAu3 compound with the TiCu3-type structure, and Gd14Au51 forms in a hexagonal structure. The Au-rich phase, GdAu6, has the tetragonal structure. The solid solubility of Gd in Au was investigated by [65Rid], who reported a solubility of 0.7 at.% Gd at the eutectic temperature of 809 C. 65Rid: P.E. Rider, K.A. Gschneidner, Jr., and O.D.
