Ba-Nd

Ba-Nd (Barium-Neodymium) K.A. Gschneidner, Jr. and F.W. Calderwood The assessed phase diagram for the Nd-Ba system is based on the work of [78Esh] , with modifications based on the work of [71Gri]. The melting temperatures for Nd and Ba have been adjusted to the accepted values for these metals, 1021 and 727 C, respectively. Immiscibility in the liquid state has been shifted to significantly higher Ba concentrations at the Ba end of the diagram and to lower Ba concentrations at the Nd end of the diagram to conform more closely to the Pr-Ba and Sm-Ba systems. No solid solution exists. A monotectic of undetermined composition on the Nd side of the diagram lowers the liquidus a few degrees. The a = b transformation of Nd, shown at 863 C, remains unaffected by Ba and is extended horizontally across the diagram to meet the L2 liquidus line. Likewise, the horizontal line at 727 C, the melting point of pure Ba, is extended across the diagram to the Nd composition, indicating negligible solid solution. 71Gri: R.B. Griffin and K.A.
