Bi-Hg

Bi-Hg (Bismuth-Mercury) L. Zabdyr and C. Guminski The Bi-Hg system is a simple eutectic type with small mutual solubilities in the solid state. The equilibrium phases are (1) the gas, g; (2) the liquid, L; (3) the solid solution, (Hg), with a low concentration of Bi; and (4) the solid solution, (Bi), containing less than 0.05 at.% Hg at room temperature. Except for one very old report of Bi-Hg intermetallic compound formation mentioned in [Hansen], no intermediate phases have been identified in this system. The assessed phase diagram is based primarily on the work of [65Nos], [ 66Pre], and [69Pet]. 65Nos: M.V. Nosek and G.V. Yan-Sho-Syan, Izv. Akad. Nauk Kaz akh. SSR, Khim., ( 4), (1965) in Russian. 66Pre: B. Predel and D. Rothacker, J. Less-Common Met., 10, 392-407 (1966) in German. 69Pet: G. Petot-Ervas, M. Allibert, C. Petot, P. Desr‚, and E. Bonnier, Bull. Soc. Chim. Fr., 1477-1481 (1969) in French. Submitted to the APD Program. Complete evaluation contains 3 figures, 2 tables, and 27 references. 1
