Ca-Co

Ca-Co (Calcium-Cobalt) Editor The Ca-Co phase diagram is based on differential dilatometric and magnetic data obtained on heating [37Has]. The allotropic temperature of Co observed by [37Has] was 467 C on heating and 426 C on cooling, whereas the presently accepted temperature is 422 C. Therefore, the actual (aCo) + (bCa) = (eCo) peritectoid temperature may be much lower than that shown in the assessed diagram. The kinetics of formation of a liquid alloy from solid Co and liquid Ca at seven temperatures between 1000 and 1450 C were measured by [80Rol]. The isochronal (3 h) solubility of Co in liquid Ca follows the Arrhenius law ( 0.7 at.% at 1000 C and 19.3 at.% at 1450 C). The equilibrium solubility is much larger, but quantitatively unknown. No Ca-Co compound forms in the solid state [80Rol].-H.O. 37Has: U. Haschimoto, J. Jpn. Inst. Met., 1(5), 177-190 (1937) in Japanese. 80Rol: M. Rolland, and G. Saindrenan, J.
