Cd-Zn

Cd-Zn (Cadmium-Zinc) J. Dutkiewicz and W. Zakulski The equilibrium phases of the Cd-Zn system, which is a simple eutectic, are (1) the liquid, L; (2) the cph terminal solid solution, (Cd), with a maximum solubility of 4.35 at.% Zn at 266 C (the eutectic temperature); and (3) the cph terminal solid solution, (Zn), with a maximum solubility of 1.46 at.% Cd at 320 C. The assessed diagram is based primarily on the work of [1897Hey], [ 56Oel], and [65Owe]. No metastable phases were found in aged Cd-Zn alloys quenched from the Cd-rich solid solution range. Splat-quenched Cd-Zn alloys containing less than 35 at.% Zn and Cd-Zn alloys with less than ~15 at.% Cd solidified without solute partitioning. Extended solid solution samples decomposed rapidly at room temperature [79Bos]. There are no data available on the thermodynamic properties of the solid solutions. 1897Hey: C.T. Heycock and F.H.
