Ce-Cr

Ce-Cr (Cerium-Chromium) A. Palenzona and S. Cirafici The assessed Ce-Cr phase diagram is based on the work of [69Sve], [70Kob], and [71Kob2] and on the careful revision of [74Gsc]. Melting point and transformation temperatures for the pure elements are corrected to the accepted values. Because no additional, more recent experimental work has been reported, large parts of the phase diagram remain unverified; reliable mutual solubility data are also needed. Early studies [57Ter, 59Sav] indicated that a wide monotectic equilibrium extends from about 23 to 96 at.% Cr at 1780 C. The solubility of Ce in (Cr) at 1700 C was found to be about 2.3 at.%; at 20 C, it dropped to 0.56 to 0. 75 at.%. No intermediate phases were found. [69Sve] investigated the whole composition range, confirming substantially the results of [57Ter] and [59Sav]. According to [69Sve], the solubility of Ce in ( Cr) at 1790 C is about 1.0 at.%. [70Kob], [71Kob1], and [71Kob2] investigated carefully the solubility of Ce in (Cr). Their results ranged from 0.2 at.% Ce at 1000 C to 1.1 at.% Ce at 1750 C. [74But] studied the effect of RE metals on the antiferromagnetism of Cr and found that metals of the Ce subgroup refine Cr and do not noticeably affect its N‚el point. 57Ter: V.F. Terekhova and E.M.
