Ge-Tl

Ge-Tl (Germanium-Thallium) R.W. Olesinski and G.J. Abbaschian The assessed phase diagram of the Ge-Tl system is based primarily on the work of [48Kle], [53Thu], [60Thu], and [62Tag]. The solid solubility of Tl in (Ge) has a retrograde character, with a maximum of 0.02 at.% Tl at about 917 C; the solid solubility of Ge in (Tl) is probably negligible. The eutectic composition was calculated by [53Thu] and [60Thu] by extrapolating the liquidus to the melting point of Tl; the composition value subsequently was used to calculate the freezing point depression, assuming negligible solid solubility in the solid state. The assessed liquidus was generated by thermodynamic optimization using the data of [48Kle] and [60Thu]. The calculations were based on the assumption that the enthalpy and entropy of mixing are temperature independent and that the Ge-Tl mutual solubility in the solid state is nil. 48Kle: W. Klemm, L.
