Mn-S

Mn-S (Manganese-Sulfur) H.F. Franzen The only compound that is stable in the Mn-S system at 1 bar pressure is stoichiometric aMnS [65Fur, 68Wie]. The accepted phase diagram for the Mn-S system is in essence that reported in [37Vog] with refinement of the monotectic temperatures as determined by DTA on samples that were prepared and examined so as to reduce oxygen contamination to a minimum [76Sta]. A transformation at about 100 kbar and room temperature has been reported for aMnS by [66Cle] and [66Dri]. The N‚el temperature for aMnS is reported to be about 153 K [66Huf, 68Bou]. Two monosulfide phases that are unstable relative to aMnS (NaCl-type) are bMnS (cubic ZnS-type) and gMnS (hexagonal ZnS-type). MnS2 (cubic, FeS2-type) [65Fur] is unstable with respect to aMnS and sulfur gas at 1 bar. 37Vog: R. Vogel and W. Hotop, Arch. Eisenhuttenwes., 11, 41-54 (1937). 65Fur: S. Furuseth and A.
