N-Th

In-Th (Indium-Thorium) H. Okamoto The assessed In-Th phase diagram is based on the work of [84Pal], with review of the experimental data of [48Hay] and [59Mur]. The solubility of Th in (In) must be very small, because the L/[L + In3Th] liquidus trend (0.47, 0.12, and ~0 at.% Th at 900, 800, and 650 C, respectively [48Hay]) indicates that the eutectic composition is essentially 0 at.% Th. In3Th is not superconducting at 0.05 K [70Hav]. InTh2 may have some appreciable solubility range, unlike other compounds [84Pal]. According to [59Mur], the solubility of In in (aTh) is 9.2 at.% at 1160 с 10 C and 1.7 at.% at 800 C. [64Ban] observed that the thermal arrests on alloys with 1, 2, and 5 at.% In occurred over ranges similar to those for pure Th. Therefore, [64Ban] concluded that In has no significant effect on the a = b transition of Th, and that the solubility of In in both forms of Th is more than 5 at.% at 1400 C. However, this type of thermal effect is also possible even if the solubility of In in bTh is very small. Considering also that the melting point of Th used by [64Ban] was about 40 C higher than the assessed temperature, the conclusion of [64Ban] regarding the (bTh) = (aTh) transition in the In-Th system is in need of corroboration. 48Hay: E.E.
