Nb-Y

Nb-Y (Niobium-Yttrium) A. Palenzona and S. Cirafici The equilibrium phases of the Nb-Y system are (1) the liquids, L1 and L2; (2) the (bY) and (aY) terminal solid solutions; and (3) the terminal solid solution, (Nb). The assessed Nb-Y phase diagram is based on the work of [59Car1], [59Car2], [ 61Lun1], and [61Lun2]. The Nb-Y system exhibits extensive immiscibility in the liquid, with negligible solubility of Nb in (Y) and less than 0.05 at.% Y in ( Nb) [65Tay]. No intermetallic phases have been found in this system. Immiscibility in the liquid state extends from about 0.5 to 54 at.% Y at the monotectic temperature of about 2400 C. No information is available to evaluate the critical temperature of the miscibility gap. 59Car1: O.N. Carlson, V.C. Marcotte, and D.E. Williams, USAEC Rep. ISC-1050, 53-54 (1959). 59Car2: O.N.
