Sc-Y

Sc-Y (Scandium-Yttrium) K.A. Gschneidner, Jr. and F.W. Calderwood The assessed Sc-Y phase diagram is based on the thermal and X-ray studies of [ 63Bea]. The melting point temperatures and the b = a transformation temperatures of the end members did not agree with the accepted values for the pure metals. Consequently, these have been changed to agree, and the corresponding temperatures for each alloy specimen have been adjusted by proportioning those deviations on the basis of the composition of the alloy. The minimum in the solidus and liquidus lines was therefore raised from 1365 to 1372 C, and the minimum in the solvus lines was increased from 1175 to 1180 C. The liquidus on the present phase diagram is shown as a dashed line, because only a few points on this curve were determined experimentally. X-ray studies showed complete solid solubility of these alloys at room temperature. 63Bea: B.J. Beaudry and A.H. Daane, Trans. AIME, 227, 865 (1963). Published in Bull.
