Tl-Yb

Tl-Yb (Thallium-Ytterbium) S. Delfino, A. Saccone, A. Palenzona, and R. Ferro The assessed phase diagram for the Yb-Tl system is based primarily on the work of [87Sab], with review of the work of [89Cir]. The melting points of the pure metals and the transformation temperatures have been adjusted slightly to conform to the currently accepted values. The Yb5Tl2 phase, with an unknown structure, was reported by [87Sab]. However, the stoichiometry of this phase was slightly modified by [89Cir], who assigned its structure to the Ca8In-type Yb8Tl3. [89Cir] also determined the structure of the Yb2Tl phase as an orthorhombic Co2Si type. The maximum solid solubility of Tl in (gYb) is about 14 at.% Tl at the 647 C eutectic temperature; the solubility in (bYb) is about 6 at.% Tl at the 607 C eutectoid temperature. The solid solubility of Yb in (bTl) and (aTl) is assumed to be negligible. Thermodynamics and magnetic properties of Yb-Tl alloys as well as the general properties of RE-Tl alloys were discussed by [88Sac]. 87Sab: N.A. Sabirzyanov, S.P. Yatsenko, and L.Z. Melekhov. J.
